Shared memories of Father Peyton’s May 23, 1954 visit to the National School in Ballinasloe inspired a scene in The House Children.
The institutions are closed, but the pain is not forgotten.
My inspiration for The House Children came from five women who graciously shared their stories about life as residents in Saint Joseph’s Industrial School in Ballinasloe, Galway, Ireland. A Sister of Mercy sent me the photograph of this institution.
