Coming Full Circle in Ireland

It was during a visit to Ballinasloe, many years ago, that I first heard about Irish Industrial Schools. My curiousity led me to researching these institutions, and eventually writing The House Children.

On January 3rd, I spoke about my research behind The House Children in the Ballinsloe Library, which was once the convent that housed the Sisters of Mercy who ran St. Joseph’s Industrial School.

In attendance was a group of Tuam Survivors that I had the pleasure of meeting and talking to after the event.

I feel honored to be welcomed at Ballinasloe Library in County Galway. This new library was actually the Sister of Mercy Convent that I refer to in my novel The House Children. I will be presenting my research in the room pictured above, which was the convent chapel.
